FENDI FALL/WINTER 2009

In the Fall Winter 2009 fashion show, a chromatic palette of slate grey, pewter, tobacco, ginger, cream and carmine accents together with innovative research on material and fine craftsmanship shape the core of the collection.

18K molecular white gold mink, Persian lamb lace, reversible shearling, stretch suede and nappa, impalpable raw cut unlined crocodile can be found through out the runway.  Silk gazar or flowing georgette become felt, quilted jacquard transforms into chiffon.  Silk jersey, ethereal cashmere, raw Shetland wool, mohair knit and velvet heightening the sense of modern glamour.

The collection is all about contrasts. Cascades of precious cerulean sable that ‘vanishes’ into silver fox are wore with chunky velvet sack dresses with wisps of chiffon fringes.  Models appeared in molded leather bustiers worn over draped knit dresses, symbolizing tough women fighting through tough times.  While strong shoulders determined the silhouette; the use of fur, 3D macramé inlay, matt micro-sequin of fur-like embroidery and fluffy mohair trimmings at the hemlines softened the edges and give it a hint of feminine touch.

As Karl Lagerfeld said backstage, “I wanted flexibility, where clothes are chic yet practical, with country colors like deep forest yet tough enough for the city.”

Flexibility was also apparent in the bag series.  A profusion of new and timeless ‘Peekaboo’ bags in jersey, felt, pony, nubuck, skunk and mink can be seen in the collecction.  Silvia Fendi has also re-invented the ‘Peekaboo’ with a roll-up version with a furry underside, granting the same object several different looks.  Very high heeled pumps and boots are wore with gaiters to add in a dose of toughness.

“I liked the sense of uncertainty.” Smiled Silvia Fendi, a mischievous look in her eyes.
