Fall II 2011 Inspiration

Club Monaco explores the 70s, mixing rock and roll glam and the Hollywood heyday to create a moody collection on a palette of blackish mulberries, blueberries, rusts and plums, worldly inspired prints, and tarnished metals.  Iconic designers Ossie Clark and Barbara Hulanicki marry with the intrinsic cool of Electric Light Orchestra and Marc Bolan, embodying the gypsy feel of the ultimate vagabond lifestyle on the edge of glamour.

The Club Monaco girls, in crushed velvet and spirited prints inspired by the bands they follow, are the coolest groupies: “fresh little foals with long legs, bright faces, and round dolly eyes.”  Reworked Victorian suede is paired with fur and beaded fringe, floral and feather prints are topped with Peruvian patterned sweaters and Mongolian lamb vests, all finished with flared pant legs and wide brimmed hats that illustrate the decade’s carefree lifestyle.  Satin tuxedos and silver turbans tie in the drama of the 70’s silver screen.  Accessories are perfectly imperfect in gold and silver, metallic lace, art nouveau patterns and include chokers, feathers, and skinny scarves.

The menswear collection takes on the roaming, transient feel of the nomadic rock and roller in New York City, with tooled leather, patchwork suede, cable knit sweaters, and corduroy on a subdued palette.  Backpacks and tweed jackets are incorporated into the on the urban road vibe.  Bowties and waistcoats add star quality combined with unexpected plaids, leathers and knits.
