Ermenegildo
Zegna Foundation supports WWF and the Panda Conservation Project
Ermenegildo
Zegna has long been a synonym of style and quality in the world
of men's clothing. Ermenegildo Zegna doesn't limit itself to fashion,
it also focuses on other sectors, ones that seek to improve quality
of life and environmental conservation.
Back in the 1930s, the Company's founder Ermenegildo Zegna was
already considering the environment around his wool mill in Trivero
(Northern Italy) as a heritage to cultivate and not a resource to
destroy.
He planted half a million of conifers, rhododendrons creating the
"Panoramica Zegna", a scenic road through the hill country
near Biella, and the core of what has been known for the last ten
years as Oasi Zegna an area stretching along the "Panoramica
Zegna" for 100 square kilometer where the alpine environment
is protected but at the same time made accessible to visitors enabling
an environmental culture to flourish through direct experience.
Today, the Ermenegildo Zegna Foundation is supporting WWF - the
global conservation organization - in its work to conserve the Giant
Panda in the Qinling Mountain region of China. The WWF project aims
to establish "panda corridors" linking widespread panda
habitats in Qinling, which is home to the most important population
of giant pandas anywhere in the world. This work will encourage
local communities to embrace ecotourism and to learn how nature
conservation and tourism can grow together. The Ermenegildo Zegna
Foundation will provide valuable funds to WWF to develop this project
over a three-year period, beginning in September 2004.
