一九六三年于纽约出生的Marc Jacobs，在Parson's School of Design读书时，已屡获设计奖项。一九八四年，他更荣获 The Perry Ellis Gold Thimble Award、The Chester Weinberg Gold Thimble Award及The Design Student of the Year Award。

一九八六年，Jacobs推出首个以个人名字Marc Jacobs为卷标的系列。八七年，Jacobs 获颁时装界的最高荣誉The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion Talent，成为最年轻获得此奖项的时装设计师。一九九二年，Jacobs 再次获CFDA颁发The Women's Designer of the Year Award。

一九九七年，第一间Marc Jacobs店铺正式于纽约开幕，同年Jacobs第三次获CFDA颁发The Women's Designer of the Year。一九九九年，他更获CFDA冠以Accessory Designer of the Year的美名。

Jacobs 在零一年秋季推出副线服装系列Marc by Marc Jacobs，这系列充满青春色彩和魅力的服饰，深受世界各地时尚人士喜爱，每季皆成为潮流指标，现于全球的高级百货公司和专卖店发行。

二零零四年，Marc by Marc Jacobs正式进驻中国。

二零零五年，Marc by Marc Jacobs于广州丽柏广场开设专卖店，店内包含最新女士服装、配饰和鞋履。
